After a convenient hotel pickup, we start this 1-day San Francisco tour by exploring the city’s legendary waterfront, learning the stories of the Embarcadero, Levi’s Plaza and Fisherman’s Wharf. We’ll even take a brief coffee break at the Ferry Building. Can you spot the wild cherry-headed parrots?
Then we make our way to Pier 33 where you’ll board the ferry to infamous Alcatraz Island! Listen to a way cool audio presentation featuring actual recordings of inmates and guards that worked and inhabited the island! Our San Francisco Alcatraz tour gives the flexibility to enjoy some time to roam and explore this historic spot. Group selfie! Nice!
After 2-3 hours on the “rock”, your day has only begun!! You’ll take one of the late-morning ferries to San Francisco so you can join for the afternoon portion of your tour.
Get ready, get set, and here we go! Our “city insider’s” tour is about to begin! We’ll visit North Beach, a historic Italian neighborhood. So Cool! While there, we’ll point out Lombard Street, Coit Tower, Washington Square and more. Next, we’ll visit the Palace of Fine Arts. That’s one gorgeous building! And the main event—a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge! Selfies galore!
On this tour, you’ll also see the City’s rugged coastline. Pause to enjoy cliff-side views of “city by the bay”. Be blown away by the beauty of Golden Gate Park.
Our San Francisco one-day tour will take you through the culturally rich neighborhoods of San Francisco! You’ll learn about what made the Haight-Ashbury, Mission and Castrodistricts what they are and why they’re important to so many. Take a slow drive through Chinatown and Nob Hill (some say, “Snob Hill” Ha!) Part 1 – Pickup at your hotel:
- Your Extranomical experience “San Francisco Alcatraz Tour” will begin at your downtown or Wharf to your hotel first thing in the morning to make the beginning of your day a breeze. Awesome! Once you become comfortable onboard, we suggest making new friends with your fellow travelers.
- Right after we begin, we’ll already be at San Francisco’s Waterfront and the Ferry Building. This is the perfect time and place to grab some coffee and breakfast snacks. We love gummy bears and trail mix! Delicious!
Part 2 – Special morning attraction:
- If you have booked your Bay In a Day with Alcatraz, we will drop you off at Pier 33 and you will board a ferry to Alcatraz Island. Your Alcatraz Tour begins with a 45 minute audio presentation “Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour,” featuring recordings of actual guards and inmates who lived and worked on the Island. Once your Alcatraz Audio Tour is finished, explore Alcatraz Island as long want on your own, but don’t forget that you have to get the ferry back to San Francisco!
- Alternatively, you can book your Bay In a Day tour with a visit to Muir Woods. Sit back and relax as we journey to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area where the Giant Coastal Redwoods of Muir Woods await. Hug a tree! Think deep thoughts! On the way back, we will make a stop in the (usually) sunny, sea-side community of Sausalito. Charming!
- Lunchtime! After exploring Alcatraz and returning by ferry to Pier 41, you have some more time to grab some lunch. So many restaurants! So many versions of cioppino! Yum! Then, your tour meets back up at 1:40 pm at the Zephyr Hotel to begin your comprehensive San Francisco City Tour.
Part 4 – Late afternoon:
- Make sure you’ve uploaded every Snap and Instagram pictures to your timelines before we begin our San Francisco one day tour, starting with the Palace of Fine Arts. After a few selfies, we’ll all journey across the grand Golden Gate Bridge. Want that perfect shot of the Bridge, you’ll get it at Fort Point at the base of the south tower. Nice!
- Next, we enter Golden Gate Park from the Ocean Beach entrance – Gorgeous! Here, you’ll see the Bison Paddock. Some enormous Dutch windmills! Awesomeness!
- You’ll have time to stretch your legs and do some exploring at the Music Concourse. Check out the outdoor sculpture garden at the de Young Museum. If you move quickly, you’ll have just enough time to take a quick tour of the Japanese Tea Garden. It’s Zen-sational!
- Your 1-day tour of San Francisco will also visit The Haight-Ashbury! Here, at the epicenter for the Summer of Love you may want to weave a couple of daisies into your hair or make the universal sign for peace! Some really rocking houses are coming, like The Grateful Dead House, Jimi Hendrix Red House. Oh yeah! We will also see some Victorian homes that survived the fire of 1906. Love it!
- This San Francisco day tour passes through the storied Castro district and the Missiondistrict with its public murals—some old, some still fresh! Yes, we also art fanatics!

Chinatown’s living urban culture is always a fascinating sight to see. The traffic is crazy here, but we know the best way through it…
- Lastly, we’ll visit North Beach and the little Italy of San Francisco. You will see cute cafes, Washington Square Park, St. Peter & Paul Church, Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower. Even though this is where we conclude our tour, many of our guests get off and have dinner! Bon appétit!
